Septic Tank Service FAQ's
How often should a septic tank be pumped out?
We recommend a septic tank is pumped out every 3-5 years, depending on the number of people living in the residences.
What is your turn around for septic pump out jobs?
We have a very quick turn over and can generally do a septic tank pump out within 24 – 48 hours notice.
Do we need to put water back in the septic tank after a pump out?
Unless a plumber has requested the tank to be left emptied, yes. Plastic septic tanks need to be completely refilled after a pump out to prevent them from popping out of the ground. Concrete tanks should be refilled half way.
Do we need to put anything in the septic tank for the bacteria?
You can put a bag of blood and bone into the septic tank after a pump out
but it is not completely necessary. If you are a family of meat eaters you will already have the bacteria needed back in the septic tank system. Refilling the tank with water will also assist with the bacteria.
What do I need to provide to council to show I have had the septic tank pumped out as per their instructions?
If you provide your local council a copy of your invoice, this should be all they need for their records to show you have had the tank pumped out.
With the concrete lids, do we reseal them?
We don’t reseal the tanks in case it needs further access after the pump out (i.e. for a plumber for any repairs). Ideally they should be sealed to stop the odour but this would also depend on how close the tank is to your house. You can organise a plumber or handyman to carry out this work or complete the job yourself with a grout mix. There is a crust that is formed inside the septic tank that helps with the odours.
